Trans inclusion in our Union: Addressing the harm we've done
Union Notes
- The Equality Act 2010 states that a service provider must not discriminate against a person on the grounds of gender reassignment, unless as ‘a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim’.
- By-Law 10, point 11.1.2 f) states “[The SU aims] To challenge behaviour and change practice that directly or indirectly results in discrimination”.
Union Believes
- All Union buildings should have both gendered and gender-neutral toilet facilities (in addition to accessible toilet facilities).
- The Union should do more to improve trans inclusion within the Union and University.
Union Resolves
- That all staff who work for the Union must receive trans inclusion training, tailored to their area of work, before commencing any student-facing work for the Union. This training must be co-created with trans officers, staff and students at the University
