Change is happening: some good, some frustrating, but real progress only comes when students lead the conversation. I’m Sharlz and I’m running to be your Vice President for Democracy and Development because I believe Warwick students deserve a transparent, inclusive, and action-driven SU that truly works for them.
In a cost-of-living crisis, leadership isn’t just about words: It is about real solutions. If elected, I will fight for clearer decision-making, stronger student representation, and fairer opportunities for all. Warwick is a beautifully diverse community and every voice deserves to be heard, not just in theory but in action.

Democracy & Student Representation: "Let's win together!"
- ✅ Push for reforms to ensure all student voices (including mature, international, and underrepresented groups) actively shape SU decisions.
- ✅ Regular Q&A sessions between students and SU officers to improve transparency and trust.
- ✅ Oversee SU processes to ensure elections, ASVs, and referendums are clear, fair, accessible, and truly representative of all students.
Commercial Services & Student Experience: "An SU for all!"
- ✅ Push for lower bus fares and better student discounts while ensuring late-night transport for safety.
- ✅ Advocate for cheaper food, printing, and services on campus so students aren’t forced to overspend on essentials.
- ✅ Hold the university accountable for fairer rent policies, better maintenance, and student consultation on new builds.
- ✅ Reduce waste, improve recycling, and ensure university contracts align with ethical and student-friendly values.
Engagement and Inclusivity: "Diversity equals Power!"
- ✅ SU-led cultural and networking events that genuinely reflect Warwick’s diverse student body across all disciplines.
- ✅ Push for increased SU grants and sponsorships to support student-run businesses, start-ups, and creative projects.
- ✅ Establish motion-writing workshops and leadership initiatives to empower underrepresented groups, ensuring they have a direct route into decision-making spaces.
- ✅ More SU funding for students in financial difficulty, from food support to affordable event pricing.

I recently delivered a TEDx Talk on the realities of feeling underrepresented at university and how the lack of a voice can dishearten students who otherwise hold immense power. As someone of Caribbean heritage from a working-class background, I understand how those who don’t fit the conventional mould can slip through the cracks. True democracy thrives on intentional inclusion!
