Who I Am?

Hello everyone, my name is Xueyao Feng, and I am running for the position of Vice President for Postgraduate Students.

Having lived in the UK as an international student for five years, I understand the challenges faced by both international and home students. My journey started with a foundation year at Warwick University, followed by my undergraduate degree at Lancaster University. Now, I have come full circle—back to Warwick as a postgraduate student studying Cyber Security. I’m excited to be back and ready to represent and support you!

My experience and skills:

As an part-time International Student Ambassador for two years, I gained a deep understanding of the unique challenges international students face, while also learning what all students need to thrive. This experience strengthened my ability to support and advocate for both international and local students. With this background, I am confident in my ability to listen, represent, and take action to improve the postgraduate experience for everyone at Warwick.

What my goals are:

1. Expanding Career Support for Postgraduate Students

Goal: Improve career opportunities for postgraduate students, particularly those facing challenges in securing jobs in the UK.

How I will address it:

  • Support beyond graduation – Even after graduation, some resources at the university may no longer be available or may feel less accessible. I will offer online and in-person career support sessions to ensure that graduates continue receiving guidance even after leaving Warwick.
  • Dedicated alumni career events – I will work with Warwick’s career services to introduce exclusive alumni networking events, where recent graduates can connect with industry professionals, recruiters, and fellow Warwick alumni to explore job opportunities.
  • International student career support – I will advocate for specialized career guidance for international students navigating visa challenges, including work visa Q&A sessions with experts and resources on securing employer sponsorship.

2. Ensuring a Smooth and Supportive Transition into Postgraduate Studies

Goal: Help all postgraduate students transition smoothly into their studies and feel supported throughout their academic journey.

How I will address it:

  • Pre-arrival online forums – Before the academic year begins, I will host online sessions covering essential topics such as GP registration, accommodation, well-being services, sports clubs, societies, and academic expectations. This will ensure that students, especially those new to Warwick—feel prepared before they arrive.
  • Encouraging involvement in student life – Postgraduate studies may be the final chapter of student life for many students. I will encourage people to step out of their comfort zones and get involved in societies, sports, and social events to create unforgettable memories at Warwick.
  • Direct student support – Postgraduate life can be overwhelming, whether it’s adjusting to academic workloads, navigating university resources, or simply feeling lost. I will be a direct point of contact to guide and support students, ensuring no one feels alone.
  • PG Hub support stall – I will set up a dedicated support stall in the Postgraduate Hub (PG Hub) where students can reach out to me in person. For those who prefer online communication, my contact details will always be accessible, ensuring prompt responses and real action.

3. Strengthening Global Career and Alumni Networks

Goal: Ensure postgraduate students returning to their home countries have access to career development and networking opportunities.
How I will address it:

  • Many postgraduate students plan to return home after graduation, but career services are often too UK-focused. I will push for stronger Warwick alumni connections worldwide, so students can network with graduates already working in their home countries.
  • I will work to expand career guidance tailored to global job markets, helping students remain competitive, regardless of where they choose to work.
  • Warwick has an excellent alumni network, and I will make sure students are aware of and connected to alumni support, ensuring they feel prepared for their future careers.

I am here to listen, support and take action. Your voice matters, and I will ensure it is heard. Whether you have concerns, ideas, or questions, I am always here to help.

Feel free to reach out anytime—I am ready to support you every step of the way! (Xueyao.Feng@warwick.ac.uk)

Voting starts on 3rd March 2025 and ends on 7th March 2025, so make sure to vote for me!
