About Me
- Second Year Economics student
- Co-Head for Energy and Mining at Warwick Hedge Fund Society
Why I am running
I am running to become your Women's Officer because coming from an economics background and in a finance society, I know how isolating it can be in a male dominated environment. I wish to create a safe and supportive environment that allows women to make the most of their time at Warwick.
Goals
- Encourage societies to inform their female members what support the
SU can provide on female safety such as contact numbers for reporting an incident.
- Collaborate with career focused societies that are taking active steps to alleviate barriers that
women may face in getting onto the career ladder.
- Ensure the continuation of previous successful SU initiatives for female
security such as free period products across SU bathrooms.
Strategy/Plans
Goal 1
• There are numerous helplines and numbers to call for women in regards to sexual violence and reporting incidents, however, they need to be made more known and accessible. Encouraging societies to promote them through their social media such as Instagram and WhatsApp group chats, will ensure more women know who to call when in need.
Goal 2
- Strong ties with Women in Hedge Fund as part of WHFS and Women in Finance as part of WFS will allow me to plan collaborative events as part of the Women's Association to make sure women know what support is on offer at Warwick to expand their careers.
- Further collaborations with women focused societies will allow me to reach a wider audience to raise awareness about the Warwick Women's Association. This ensures females at Warwick know they have a place to come for support and guidance; be it for career opportunities, safety or personal queries.
Goal 3
- Continue providing free period products across campus, ensuring they are topped up on a regular basis to continue reducing period poverty on campus.
- Contacting societies that have numerous socials such as sports societies to promote support available to women in regards to sexual violence and spiking to boost the accessibility of SU support for females.
Make sure to vote for Gursimar for a more equitable and safer campus on Monday 4th March 2024.
