Practical tips on getting a job from PA Consulting (this year’s Societies Federation sponsor)

Dear all,

I’m Ant, a Warwick PPE graduate, and Consultant at PA Consulting Group – a consulting, technology, and innovation firm. Societies were a huge part of my time at Warwick – through them I climbed Kilimanjaro, cycled from London to Paris for charity, ran a radio show, tried my luck at street dancing, and received support from my course society for all my degree matters. They were also crucial in giving me the experience, and developing the skills, needed to contribute something meaningful in my employment after graduation.

Why the company I work for, worked for me…

The company I work for, PA Consulting Group, provide consulting, technology and innovation services to a range of charities, governments and the private sector to help solve the challenges that they face around the world. What that has meant in my experience of the company is that I have worked on some really exciting projects. These include working with: a UK charity to develop their long term strategic plan; a large UK health organisation to better use data to transform health services; a UK University to improve the way they run recruitment and admissions; and working in the Middle East to develop the strategic plan for a newly built multi-billion pound hospital.

Solving problems, and making improvements to the way that my society carried out its activities were things that I enjoyed at Warwick. I wanted a job after graduation where I could have a similar positive impact, making lasting improvements to the organisations I was there to help. Consulting seemed a natural fit for the continual challenge of new client problems, and PA was an even better fit for me: I knew that I wanted to work in the public sector so that I could have a positive social impact through the work that I would do, and PA let you specialise working for a sector, or a particular service, from the moment you join.

Our partnership with SocsFed, and why you should get involved!

The skills and experience you gain through societies are invaluable in the outside world, and the range of societies here make Warwick graduates, in particular, stand out for their creativity, enthusiasm, commitment and entrepreneurship.

We are sponsoring Societies Federation to expand the opportunities available to you while you’re on campus, and to support you in articulating the positive impact that these experiences have on your skill development and your offer to potential employers after graduation. We will be doing this by hosting a series of skills sessions through our campus team (made up of PA Warwick graduates) which we hope will help you stand out when you come to apply for graduate jobs and internships – whether that is at PA or elsewhere.

Of course, we think that PA provides some of the best opportunities to new graduates because we offer significant responsibility early on, and have a diverse range of projects that are intellectually stimulating. We would hope that as you spend time with us, you will discover this for yourself, and may want to consider applying for one of our roles.

For more information on what we’re up to on campus look at the list of dates in the right hand column, and contact us for any further information.

We’re looking forward to meeting you over the next few months!

Ant Scott
