Nominations close for the 2016 Officer Elections this week – this is your chance to run for a full-time Sabbatical or Part-Time Officer position here at the SU. Ever thought you could be SU President? Passionate about student welfare & campaigns, or the way the SU is run? Want to oversee our Sports & Societies departments, or feel strongly about undergraduate or postgraduate education? If you’ve ever thought there’s something which could be improved about the SU, University or overall Warwick experience, don’t just sit and snipe from the sidelines – do something about it. The nominations deadline is 12pm Noon on Wednesday 17th February. You’ve got to be in it to win it!

In other news, many staff and students have rightly condemned the recent decision to award outgoing Vice-Chancellor Nigel Thrift a parting ‘gift’ amounting to £92,000. At a time when staff wages are being frozen, services are being reduced due to a supposed “lack of funds” and many students are struggling to make ends meet, we consider this a grotesque insult. Please see below to read our statement and sign the petition set up by the Sabbatical Officer team to demand an investigation and apology!

Visit the SU’s Democracy pages to find out which positions are available in this term’s Officer Elections, together with information about how you can stand as a candidate.

We were appalled to discover this week that the outgoing V-C was awarded a £92,000 parting ‘gift’ by a three-man Remuneration Committee. Please sign our petition condemning this decision, and urge your friends and tutors to do the same!
