We hope you all enjoyed the first two weeks of term. All our events during the past fortnight have been absolutely rammed - make sure you head to the SU’s Facebook page (facebook.com/warwicksu) to check out the photos! Congratulations are also in order to Jack Martin for their victory in this year’s Hall Wars competition – back of the net!

Now that the heady rush of Freshers is out of the way, it’s back down to business for the team here at the SU. Don’t forget that all the money you spend in any of our outlets (The Copper Rooms, The Dirty Duck, The Bread Oven, Curiositea and The Terrace Bar) is reinvested back into services which directly benefit you as students. Whether you want to get involved through clubs & societies, by voting in this week’s Autumn Elections or simply by having a great night out, it’s your Union - make sure you play a part in it!

Here are some of the highlights of Week 3…

This week will see the student body select their choice of Postgraduate Officers and Student Councillors to represent you on some of the highest forums and democratic bodies in the Students’ Union. Head to warwicksu.com/vote to view the full list of candidates!

Voting is all conducted online - polls open at 9am on Tuesday 15th and close at 9pm on Thursday. Following that, make sure you log on to warwicksu.com/democracy on Friday to find out the winners!

Over the next week, your SSLC representatives will also be elected. Being a rep is a great way to shape the way your course runs, and it looks great on your CV! For more information about the SSLC system, take a look at the SU website (warwicksu.com/sslc/) or email education@warwicksu.com. If you’ve already been elected, training opportunities will be available - please sign up for sessions as soon as possible via the website!

This week’s special is Pesto Veg Melt for £2.95 - peppers, onion, courgette and tomato, roasted with pesto mayonnaise and toasted with mixed salad. Alternatively, our Meat-Free Monday option will be Sunblushed Tomato Tapenade with mixed salad for £2.95!

Warwick Folk Society will be holding their first Ceilidh of the year on Monday in the SU Atrium from 7:30pm-10:30pm, with music provided by Folkus Pocus and caller Rhodri Davies. No previous experience is required, and they welcome anybody to come and have a go!

Our free and confidential GUM Clinic returns to the SU on Tuesday, giving you the chance to get checked out for sexually-transmitted infections in a confidential setting. The clinic will run from 11:30am-5:30pm in Meetings Rooms 4/5 of SUHQ – please note that appointments can last up to 20 minutes, so you’re advised not to arrive too late if you want to be seen!

See how the team from the University’s Student Careers & Skills department can help shape your future at 5pm in the SU Atrium this Thursday! For more info and to register, see the university website.

Warwick Jailbreak is, just like it sounds, a 36-hour rush to wherever you want in the world. The catch? You’re not allowed to spend a single penny of your own money! Come along to their introductory meeting at 7pm on Thursday 17th in R0.21 for more information

Loot vintage clothing brings its eclectic choice of internationally-sourced stock from its warehouse in Leamington to Curiositea this Saturday. Head down between 10am-5pm to grab a bargain!

The University has commissioned Community Research to help them gain an understanding of the views of their students, staff and other key stakeholders. They are looking for a number of students to participate in a series of discussion groups – there’s a £5 Bookshop gift voucher for those who take part! For more info and to sign up, head to your university website.

The Student Progression Team is currently recruiting a limited number of Ambassadors for a scheme which aims to place current university students in a small number of schools and colleges across the Coventry and Warwickshire region. For info and application forms, visit the university website.
