Hi everyone and welcome to Week 2! We hope your first week of term was a blast – and congratulations are of course in order to Rootes on their victory at last night's Hall Wars competition! (But remember, it's the taking part that counts…)

Hopefully you've all settled in and got into the swing of things here at the University – don’t forget that if you're ever unsure of anything, experiencing problems or just need someone to talk to, our Student Advice Team are based on the top floor of SUHQ, as are your Sabbatical Officer Team. As always, all info relating to the SU can be found on our website – warwicksu.com – or you can email enquiries@warwicksu.com with any questions you may have and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!

Nominations are still open for the 2012 Autumn Elections. If you want to have a real say in how your Union is run, and hold your Officers to account, then stand to be a Student Councillor today! Nominations for positions close this Friday (12th October) and voting opens on 16th October. Go to warwicksu.com/elections for all the details on how to nominate yourself.

We are very excited to present Campaigns Convention 2012! This will be the first time Warwick SU has run anything like it and it aims to educate, engage and promote the benefits of student-led campaigns. The first Convention of the year is set for Saturday 13th October in The Copper Rooms from 1pm – 4pm, and here we hope to show off the new and exciting campaigning plans Warwick SU has for the next year - from helping members carry out bigger and better campaigns, to receiving feedback from those in attendance, to helping guide and steer where the campaigns resources should be focused for each and every society. On Saturday you can also vote on the Campaigns Committee – come and stand for election or at the very least, see what Campaigning is all about at Warwick – be a part of it!

Want to represent your course? Want to discuss educational issues and concerns with academics from your department? Then think about standing as an academic rep in your Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC). There will be elections in one of your lectures or online, so keep an eye out, and get involved!

Do you want to run the next Big Issue? Fancy setting up a new Fifteen? Have you got an enterprise idea that could really make a difference - something that could improve social inclusion, or help deliver real social change? If so, the Ernst & Young Social Enterprise Project is the ideal opportunity to put your ideas into practice! Register online for our Launch Event on 15th October (Monday Week 3) and find out more about how you can get involved in this exciting scheme at warwicksu.com/socialenterprise.

We have a variety of societies for all students to get involved in. If you missed the Societies Fair last week then head to warwicksu.com/societies for information on all of the societies and how to get involved! In order to join a society, you must purchase Societies Federation membership (a one off fee of £14). You can join societies throughout the year so please do get involved!

If you missed the Sports Fair last Tuesday it is not too late to become part of Warwick Sport! Clubs are still holding taster sessions and you are still welcome to go along to their training. In addition you can now register for our Ernst & Young Intra-Mural Leagues and become involved in our new initiative, Warwick Active, which organises different activities throughout the week including a casual running club on Mondays. Further information can be found on the Warwick Sport website.

We are launching two new support networks at the Students’ Union. For Student Parents from 9.30am on Monday mornings on Weeks 3, 5, 7 and 9, we are starting a free coffee morning (children and toys very welcome!) as an opportunity to meet others and chat in an informal atmosphere, as well as a chance for us to hear how we can support you better as a Students’ Union. On the Thursday of the alternate weeks – 4, 6, 8, and 10 from 11:00am-1pm– there will be a Drop-In session in the Advice Centre available specifically to chat, help and support Students who are Carers. If you have any questions about either of these, please do get in touch with Ben at welfare@warwicksu.com.
