Some jazzy facts and figures: in the first two weeks of term, the lovely staff in the food and drink outlets have poured 8775 pints of purple, made 6277 baguettes, and whipped up 6644 teas, coffees and hot chocolates to keep you full and toasty as the cold weather begins to bite.
1564 number of people have voted in the autumn elections and the results are now available on the SU website. 523 people also voted for a new bread oven baguette filling – look out for the chicken fajita 'democracy baguette', coming soon!
8123 people have joined at least one society – a huge increase on last year. Degree? What degree…
The 2nd hand book sale has put £30,000 back into students' pockets. Amazon is so last year.
Our fabulous staff at the advice centre have dealt with 600 enquiries from students since the start of term – ranging from accommodation queries to academic concerns.
We sold out 16 events during freshers fortnight. Zane Lowe summed up our ents pretty well: when he played here he stopped the music to announce to the crowd: "You guys are very lucky to have this venue, this Ents department, the great security and bar staff at your disposal". Well we've always thought so – but amazing to hear it from him.
In celebration of the Olympic torch coming on to campus for a visit, Athletics, men'’s and women's hockey completed a 2012 minute (33 hour) run, swimming and water polo completed 2012 pool lengths in an hour, and football did – that's right, you've guessed it! – 2012 kick ups. Some seriously epic numbers and a brilliant day for sport – massive well done to all involved!
And of course we've got lots of swanky new atrium furniture for your leisure pleasure – where better to relax after a hectic few weeks? Plus we’ve been preparing for the university's biggest teaching and learning review, engaging in conversations about fee increases, and winning thousands of pounds for hall societies, improving the SSLC system and internationalisation – a busy day is a happy day, after all…
