Midlands Shield 2024

Event from Squash

Saturday 16 November 2024, 9.00AM - Saturday 16 November 2024, 6.00PM

When is it?

9am - 6pm, Saturday 16th November 2024

Where is it?

Sports and Wellness Hub, University of Warwick, CV4 7EU. It is up to you to arrange transport to Warwick on the day. Parking is available at the centre (£2 for the whole day), or alternatively, Coventry train station is fairly near.

Who can play?

Any intermediate-level players! ( looking for squashlevels < 800, hard cut off at 1000). For Warwick students, you must be signed up to the dev squad and paid the team fees. We anticipate a lot of demand so we will give priority to these people. For non-Warwick ask your exec who can reach out to the club via Instagram.

What's the format?

Teams will contain 5 people ranked in terms of ability. Then teams will play each other, with 1st seed vs 1st seed, 2nd seed vs 2nd seed, etc. Because of this format, we encourage you to split the strongest players among teams as we think this is the best way for everyone to have competitive matches ie if your uni is bringing 3 teams, put your top 3 players as the 1st seeds of each team, next 3 strongest as 2nd seeds etc. We anticipate 2 groups of 5, where we will have a group stage and then take playoffs between the groups (eg 1st in Group A play 1st in group B, 2nd in Group A play second in group B etc) so everyone is guaranteed 4 games.

What does it cost / how do I buy a ticket?

Ticketing works as follows:

  • Warwick Students - Thomas (Dev Squad captain) will have an interest form and will be organizing the teams. Be sure to sign up with him to get your place. Once Thomas has confirmed this with you, please buy a member ticket (£5)
  • Non-Warwick Students - From experience we believe the easiest way is for you to buy a 'team ticket' for a team of 5 and then arrange your final teams closer to the date (which makes it easier to deal with dropouts and guarantees everyone who you bring will have a ticket). To enter a team, one person (team captain I guess) is required to buy the non-member team ticket (£25) which buys the tickets for all 5 of your team. Once the ticket is bought, a final list of the members of your teams is required, but this can be done up to the day before the event.

Tickets will go off sale at 12pm Friday 15th November. However, we would ask that they are bought as soon as possible as it makes it easier for us to organise everything :). If you have any trouble buying tickets please let us know ASAP so we can sort it.

If you have any questions please get in touch with Warwick Squash Instagram or one of the following emails:

Look Forward to seeing you there!
