Kieran Barry
Widening Participation Officer
He/Him
Hi everyone, my name is Kieran and I will be your Widening Participation Officer for the year!
Course:
I'm now in my final year for Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE).
Hometown:
Born and lived in County Durham for my whole life!
Fun fact about me:
I sang in one of the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall back in 2018 after my GCSEs. My singing seems like it has been going downhill ever since.
My role and what I hope to achieve this year:
I aim to act on behalf of all Widening Participation students at Warwick, providing WP students with a voice which they have not been able to have at the university historically. I was voted in on an ambitious campaign, and I aim to honor this.
I hope to work to include students in university Outreach programmes and raise awareness of Warwick to more underrepresented communities across the country, and to lobby the university hard on increasing financial support and transparency of this process for all students struggling to afford the growing financial burden of university life.
On the more strategic side, I also am going to work towards improving existing WP networks and thinking of ways to create new methods for students and staff to collaborate within the university, and to manufacture a better definition of 'widening participation' to better represent students who need support the most. I also will more generally look at forums for increasing awareness of social mobility/widening participation issues on campus.
