Non-BUCS Team of the Year 2022 and 2023!
We welcome all levels of skill and experience - most of us had never cheered before Uni so don't be afraid to learn something new. Cheer is a great way to keep fit, make amazing new friends, and represent the University! We have 11 cheerleading and dance squads, 8 competitive and 3 non-competitive so there really is something for everyone. Aside from competitions and performances, we have a very busy social calendar, with weekly socials and domestic and international tours! We also get involved with multiple University-wide events, and regularly volunteer and raise money for charity. We pride ourselves on being a very friendly, open and inclusive club where lifelong friendships can form.
Cheerleading
Large Stunt
We have two Large Stunt squads. These are our largest competitive squads comprising of 16-25 members. We compete at Level 2 Non-Tumble and Level 3 Tumble, with athletes ranging from complete beginners to experienced cheerleaders. It combines elements of stunting, dance, tumbling and jumps. Level 2 train twice a week, Wednesdays 2-4pm locally using University facilities, and Sundays 3-4:30pm at a world-class cheer gym Coventry Dynamite who annually compete at the World Championships in Florida. Level 3 train twice a week, Fridays 3-4pm at CD, and Sunday 4-6pm at CD. In our sessions we have access to their incredible facilities including a full-size sprung floor and tumble track as well as being coached by their outstanding coaches. Our Level 2 Non-Tumble squad became National Champions at Future Cheer University Nationals 2024. Our level 3 Tumble team won 2nd place at ICC British Open.
Small Stunt
We have two competitive Small Stunt squads for the 2026/27 season. Small stunt involves only stunting, there are no jumps, dance or tumbling elements involved and each is comprised of between four and five members. If you are completely new to cheer, don't worry! Our Level 2 squad are perfect for those of you who have never tried the sport before, or for those who just want to focus on stunting. We train twice a week, Mondays 7-9am and Fridays 7-9am. We also offer a Level 3 Small Stunt squad whose routine consists of higher difficulty stunting skills, who also train Mondays 7-9am and Fridays 7-9am.
Stunt Development Squad
Our Stunt Development squad is one of our two development squads. We train once weekly on a Sunday 7:30-9pm in the Combat Rooms at the SportsHub. This squad is ideal for beginners and members looking to further develop their cheerleading skills. We will work on stunting, dance, jumps and basic tumbling, similar to a Large Stunt squad but in a non-competitive setting. Many of our memebrs join our Development Squads to practise skills before joining a competitive team in the future or as a fun extracurricular activity, away from academics. As well as being a lesser commitment and a cheaper option, Development Squad provides a great social atmosphere, and members have the opportunity to perform at our showcase in Term 2 later in the year.
Varsity
Our Varisty Squad is our new sideline cheer squad as of 2024! This team is one of our three non competitive-squads, but unlike our Development Squads, still requires the committment of competitve squad. It is our only team that incorporates both Stunt and Dance in one routine and conists of ~30 members! This crowd-pleasing and exciting half-time routine consists of stunts, dance and tumbles. We train every Thursday 12-2pm. We perform at sports games throughout Term 2, as well as Varsity matches and our annual showcase. This team is perfect for beginners willing to try out every aspect of our club, but also for our more experienced athletes looking for an less competitive option.
Dance
Jazz
Our Jazz squad is one of our most technically challenging dance squads, with routines comprised of traditional and stylised movements to create a dynamic routine. Typically, our Jazz team consists of 6-10 members and we train twice a week in the dance studios at the on-campus Sports Hub. One session Wednesday 7:30-9am, focusing on technique and strength, and Thursdays 5-7pm, focusing on choreography.
Hip Hop
Our Hip Hop team is normally made up of 8-12 members, and our routines are high energy, technical, and are made up of clean, sharp movements. Our Hip Hop team train once a week for 2 hours in the Sports Hub, on Thursdays 7-9pm. During Term 2, Hip Hop also train on Wednesdays 7:30-9am.
Pom
Pom is our largest Dance squad, and performs using traditional pom-poms to create an eye-catching, fast-paced routine. Pom routines are composed of technical leaps, jumps, turns, kick lines and tight formations, just like Jazz and Lyrical. Last year we placed 4th at Legacy University Nationals! We train twice a week, once on a Wednesday 7:30-9am, to focus on technique and strength, and Wednesdays 12-2pm to go over choreography.
Lyrical
For 3 years in a row, our Lyrical squad has been undefeated National Champions at the Legacy Cheer and Dance competition! Lyrical routines are often very expressive and are used to tell a story through dance. Our Lyrical squad trains twice a week a week, once on a Monday 7:30-9:30pm to learn and perfect choreo, and again on the Wednesday 7:30-9am for technique and strength. We consistently impress at all showcases and competitions, and even won National Grand Champions at Future Cheer University Nationals in 2024.
Dance Development Squad
Our Dance Development squad is our second development squad alongside Stunt. We train once weekly on a Tuesday 4-5pm in Studio 2. This squad is ideal for beginners and members looking to further develop their dance technique.
Socials
This year we have a very busy and fun social calendar planned! We are a very sociable club and our Social Secretaries ensure that we put on a huge variety of events throughout the year that accomodate everyone. We circle weekly in the SU Copper Rooms before POP! on a Wednesday night and this is a perfect opportunity to make friends and socialise, whether you choose to drink or not! We also host a number of sober socials such as movie nights, team bonding meals, trampoline park visits, bar crawls and BBQs. Even if you are not part of our competitive and non-competitive teams, we would love to see you at our events as a Social Devil - the more the merrier! Socials are a large part of what makes Devils so fun to be a part of, and so we make sure that there is something on offer for everyone.
Community
Our club selects a number of charities to support throughout the year. Annually, we hold our Stuntathon event at the SportsHub, where our members stunt and dance for 12 hours in support of a local charity. We also put on our Bring A Boy fixture in support of Movember where we encourage boys who have never cheered or danced before to come and give it a go! We will also hold other social events throughout the year to raise money for different causes.
