Warwick Hedge Fund Society (WHFS) was created to introduce a new way of engaging students with the financial industry. We pride ourselves on holding some of the most professional and informative events at the University of Warwick, with opportunities for members to access and network with industry professionals from a wide array of firms. We run a proprietary Investment Research division through which students have the opportunity to learn about financial modelling and writing equity research reports. We give students mastery over various industries such as Technology, Real Estate, and Healthcare, to name just a few.
Over the past few years, WHFS analysts have had the opportunity to directly interact with and get feedback from industry professionals from JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Blackrock, UBS, Barclays, Lazard, Fidelity Investments, and many more. Our society prides itself on providing students with a structured financial experience, which gives them a massive headstart in their careers. Although we are focused on equity research, the skills you learn in our 6-week training program are transferrable to all areas of finance, such as Investment Banking (IB) or Sales & Trading (S&T). We have had alumni go into all areas, from Bank of America for IB to Morgan Stanley S&T to BlackRock.
Every year, WHFS hosts the Premier Global Invitational, an inter-university stock pitching competition against the top universities in the US. In this competition, you can compete, interact, and network with students from the best universities across the US. Last year, we competed against 12 teams from Harvard, Princeton, UC-Berkeley, and Cornell. We were also delighted to host two billionaire judges! These were David Einhorn, founder of Greenlight Capital, and David Ott, Co-Founder of Viking Global. As a society, we entered two teams. Not only did we secure first place again for the second year in a row, but our second team placed 3rd! We hope to continue our unbeaten streak in the 2025 edition of the Premier Global Invitational, which you could be a part of.
But that is not all! WHFS is also the founder of the UK Finance League, an inter-university stock pitching competition. In this competition, you can compete against students from the best universities across the UK, such as Oxford, Cambridge, and LSE. We hold several rounds of stock pitches, which are judged by industry professionals scrutinising every detail of your financial analyses just like they would in the real world. In the end, only one team from one university is crowned the winner. Last year, our team from Warwick came in second, losing out to Oxford. This year, we plan to secure the top spot!
But WHFS is not all about the work. We have planned several exciting events this year to keep all our members engaged, ranging from clubbing nights to go-karting. We have several divisions available for anyone looking to get involved.
