Whether you’re a life-long lover of Salsa, or just looking to try something new, being part of Warwick Salsa could be the best decision you ever make! We offer a fun and vibrant social scene built around a legendary activity of latin dancing! Being the ultimate way to meet people, Warwick Salsa is an inclusive society that welcomes people from all across the University community. While we offer the opportunity to learn and perform, our main aim is to provide a friendly environment to meet new people and have fun on the dance floor! And we do this whilst trying to instil smooth dancing and instinctive musicality... all within the inviting arms of our salsa familia.
Classes
During term time, we offer one salsa and one bachata class every week for all levels! The usual times are below but check our socials for any updates or changes!
Mondays:
Copper Rooms 1 from 7pm-9pm: SALSA classes for ALL LEVELS! Stick around afterwards for Social Dancing for more opportunities to dance and socialise! We’ll be there till 10.30pm so stay for as long as you want!
Fridays:
Copper Rooms 1 from 6pm-8pm: BACHATA classes for ALL LEVELS. We also mix between Salsa, Rueda or Cha Cha depending on the week. Social dancing lasts until 9:30 and afterwards we head to T-Bar to round off the week, where the DJ plays some salsa and bachata music just for us!
Our levels are:
- Beginner: No Salsa experience at all
- Improvers 1: Have taken at least three beginners classes
- Improvers 2: Have taken at least ten Improvers 1 classes. For salsa, you should feel intuitively comfortable with crossbody and crossbody turn techniques, alongside other moves like inside turn and outside turn
- Intermediate: Have had over a year's worth of dance experience
If you are not certain which level is for you then please ask one of the Exec members and we would be more than happy to guide you!
Prices: £3 for members, £4 non-members per class
We have also have a special bundle where you get 10 classes for £20 (for members only!!!). That's just £2 per class for a whole term, which is a pretty cheap way to have a great time if you ask us ;)
Some quick FAQs about classes
What do I wear?
Whatever you want! No special shoes needed but if you have Latin/dance shoes that’s amazing too. For higher levels avoid rubber-soled shoes as they can be tough to spin in
Do I need to bring a partner?
No! We change partners regularly throughout the class and we tend to get very equal numbers - so you get to meet loads of new people!
But I have no experience, can I still join?
Don't worry - everyone is here to learn! The majority of our members start with no salsa or even dance experience at all and build up their dancing skills very rapidly throughout the year. Salsa and bachata is one of the most beginner friendly dance styles that you can pick up, and so it is a great way to get involved in the dance community. We run a beginners level class EVERY WEEK so you can start whenever you want !!!

Latin Night
Once a term, we host a Latin Night in the Copper Rooms. Starting at 8 pm, we run through past midnight to maximise on the social dancing!
Hosted on campus, and attracting guests from all over the Midlands, we have a renowned guest teacher, DJ, bar and classes for all levels of Salsa. There is also a workshop for another Latin dance such as Reggaeton, Rueda, Bachata or Cha Cha Cha!
These nights are a term highlight - if you haven't been yet, then make sure to note them down in your diary! You can also come to one even without any dance experience, we run beginners classes here too!
Socials
Warwick Salsa has an incredibly active social calendar to create a welcoming atmosphere where all members can have fun together! We host events such as social dancing, society meals, circling and organise trips to local salsa parties in places like Birmingham, Solihull and London. One of the best trips we run is to the biggest annual Salsa Party, BIRMINGHAM BALL hosted by Birmingham University's Dance Club Latino! It is a great and unmissable social occasion, with a day of competitions, workshops and a fabulous night full of social dancing.
Tour
Once a year we organise a Warwick Salsa tour abroad. For previous tours we have gone to Croatia, Paris, Cyprus, Monaco and Málaga. Tour is a great opportunity to learn from internationally renowned teachers, do some intense dancing, and experience an amazing holiday abroad with all the friends you’ve made at Salsa!
Performances
