Kehillah (קהילה) means Community. We are building a Jewish community at Warwick rooted in our radical history of questioning everything and standing up for justice. This is the place for diasporist culture, innovative Jewish learning, warm community, and campaigning for a better world.
From biblical texts to mass movements, there is a long and diverse tradition within Judaism of challenging injustice. We seek to act in solidarity with all communities targeted by systems of oppression in our local area and beyond, as we grapple with global injustices.
The state of Israel maintains a system of dispossession, military rule, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing which Palestinians have been facing for nearly 80 years. As Jews who believe in equality and liberation for all, we are compelled to speak out for Palestinian liberation while a supremacist state and military claims to act in the interests of the Jewish people.
Freedom for Palestinians means true freedom for Jews as well, because peace and sovereignty for one cannot truly be had if it comes from the oppression of the other.
As Jewish students, we know that the topic of Palestinian justice is often the ‘elephant in the room.’ However, we believe it is important to have these sometimes difficult conversations, grounded in communal connection building stronger understanding and learning.
Our activities include: film screenings, communal meals, campaigning, a book club, discussions, exciting talks, protests, educational workshops, and klezmer!
