We are Warwick Socialist Worker Student Society (SWSS)!
We are a group of revolutionary socialist students who believe in fighting on and off campus for radical change in society, both locally and internationally. We are part of the broader SWSS network, which is associated with the Socialist Workers Party (SWP).
As a student society, we aim to campaign on all issues to do with the fight for "bottom-up" socialism, which we believe will bring about liberation for all. This involves areas across the political field, including but not limited to the fight for a free Palestine, LGBT+ liberation including fighting for Trans rights (now!), sexism, racism, ableism, and the continued struggle against the far-right. We do this by organising theory discussions and meet-ups on campus (normally weekly/bi-weekly) as well as attending protests in the local area and nationally. We aim to co-ordinate with other societies involved in liberatory struggle as well as local campaign groups, including the local SWP branch.
In 2023-24, actions included: campus demonstrations on Palestine and the need for the University to divest from apartheid, local demonstrations in Coventry and Leamington including the Amazon picket lines, and national marches for Palestine, refugees, and against the far-right.
In 2024-25, actions included: campus, local, and national demonstrations in support of Palestine, local demo against Far-Right in Nuneaton (40+ students joined us on coaches), national demos against Tommy Robinson, attending local demos in solidarity with the Trans+ community against the Supreme Court ruling, attending Marxism Festival in London.
What, and how often, you attend any of these is fully up to you - we recognise that everyone contributes in different ways, and we believe that the socialist cause requires as many voices from and for the international working class as possible. This means that anyone is welcome to our meetings, whether never having heard about socialism before, or having read every article and book out there - we want you to join in the discussion and the fight!
We operate as a collective group, with our committee simply acting as an organising body, rather than as a top-down structure. Everyone is welcome to get involved in how we operate, what we do, and how we do it.
If you want to learn more about the SWP and the foundation politics of SWSS, please feel free to check out the Socialist Worker website and the SWSS national Instagram page.
If you believe that a better world is possible and want to get organised, simply message our Instagram or come along to one of our meetings! Any issues or feedback, please message a Committee member or the Instagram page (@warwickswss).
