This Union Notes:

This section should include any facts, figures or statements that you believe are relevant to the topic of your policy. Remember in this section clear and effective referencing is important.

  1. The SU does not currently have any prevalent campaigns to address this lack of awareness about resources (both welfare and disciplinary) among students and staff communities. (https://www.warwicksu.com/campaigns-communities/campaigns/active/)
  2. Instances of sexual violence are high in UK universities. 29% of UK university students do not know how to report sexual violence (Revolt Sexual Assault Report, 2018)
  3. Instances of sexual violence are heightened during Freshers’ Week. (Revolt Sexual Assault Report, 2018)

This Union Believes:

This section should include opinions or supporting statements for your policy.

  1. The SU should prioritise students’ wellbeing and access to resources to report sexual violence over Warwick’s reputation.
  2. As a result of many conversations, students and staff alike are unaware of the first point of contact/resources available to students to report incidents of sexual violence or to deal with subsequent welfare issues.
  3. The SU should want to decrease the number of sexual incidents which go unreported, in the interests of the wellbeing of students.

This Union Resolves:

This section should be about how you want the SU to react, the outcome of this policy. Remember to mandate specific departments/sabbatical officers; this will make things easier for future accountability

  1. Mandate the Welfare and Campaigns officer to publicise all resources pertaining to sexual violence on the SU Facebook page and welcome week materials, both in terms of welfare resources and disciplinary resources.
    1. Work with the Women’s Officer(s) to ensure all resources are publicised in a way in an informative manner and work to avoid any triggering content or language at any cost. The campaign ought to be primarily informative, so students are aware of the available resources.
    2. Such a campaign ought to be publicised to a large extent during Freshers’ Week.
