Emergency Motion: It’s Time To Combat Antisemitism
Notes:
• Vice-Chancellor Stuart Croft wrote a letter to the President of JISoc, Angus Taylor, and the University Jewish Chaplain, Rabbi Fishel Cohen, dated January 9th 2020. Ref. https://theboar.org/2020/01/university-of-warwick-will-not-adopt-ihra-definition-of-anti-semitism/
• Several other UK universities have adopted the IHRA Definition and all its examples, including the University of Bristol, University College London, and the University of Coventry.

• The National Union of Students adopted the IHRA Definition and all its examples following a vote at NUS National Conference in April 2017. The National Union of Students simultaneously has policy adopting Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions.
• The UK Government, the Labour Party, the Conservative Party, the Liberal Democrats and the Crown Prosecution Service have adopted the IHRA Definition and all its examples.
Believes:
• That Warwick Students’ Union should work to protect Jewish students from racism and prejudice.
• That Warwick Students’ Union should help create a welcoming atmosphere on campus for Jewish students.
Resolves:
• To mandate Warwick Students’ Union to adopt the IHRA Definition and all its examples into Warwick SU By-Law 8 (Equality and Diversity).
• To mandate the Warwick SU Sabbatical Team, and the Warwick SU Ethnic Minorities Officer, to author and sign a public letter (published on Warwick SU’s Facebook page) to Vice-Chancellor Stuart Croft calling on the University to adopt the IHRA Definition and all its examples without delay through a vote in Senate by the end of the Spring Term (13th March 2020). The letter must be sent and published by Friday 7th February 2020.
• To mandate Warwick Students’ Union to publish on Warwick SU’s Facebook page educational material on the importance of adopting the IHRA Definition and all its examples in consultation with Jewish Israeli Society Warwick.
• To mandate Warwick Students’ Union to facilitate and oversee a petition open to all students calling on the University of Warwick to adopt the IHRA Definition and all its examples.
