Hello Postgrads, |
Welcome to Squawker, the weekly email for all things PG! I’m Ellie, your Postgrad Officer for this year, and I’ll be here every week providing you with updates on a whole range of things going on in the postgrad world here at Warwick. |
I will cover what I’ve been up to, what events we’ve got coming up, and also the odd piece of advice on navigating your way through postgrad life. You’ll hear from me every week (even in undergraduate vacation periods) so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the postgrad parrot flying into your inbox! |
I’ve been your postgraduate officer for just over two weeks now (having officially finished my Masters in Early Modern History at the start of September) and already I’ve been involved in a ton of things, from planning some postgrad events to meeting with University staff and setting out my clear priorities for the year. I’m hoping to achieve a lot during my time here, so I’m cracking on with it early! |
Firstly, I want to say a warm welcome to everyone who is coming to Warwick for the first time this year! If you’ve already arrived, or will be arriving this weekend, you’ve got so much to look forward to in your first week as a student here. If you’re returning to Warwick and moving from undergraduate to postgraduate study, or if you’re partway through your course, there is loads on for you in the very first lecture-free Welcome Week that’s being held on campus! I’ll be out and about across campus at a whole range of events during Welcome Week, and I’ll be letting you know exactly where I am in case you’re struggling to decide what to attend. |
Secondly, whilst we have done our best to ensure all postgrads are properly housed this year, there are a few issues the University has encountered with ensuring people have the accommodation they want. If this is you, and you’re worried about where you’re staying, feel free to email me about your situation and I will do my best to help you through it – we are running a series of housing sessions at the beginning of term that you’re able to come along to. |
If you’ve been at Warwick before as an undergrad, or if you’re arriving for the first time, you may be wondering what life as a postgrad is like here. Importantly, there are a lot of PG facilities and resources for you to use, so make sure you make the most of them! The key ones are: |
