With youth turnout at a projected 72% in last week’s General Election, it’s clearer than ever that the student voice CAN make a difference in both local and national polls. Let’s make sure that we continue to build on this turnout in all future democratic decisions - we are much stronger in numbers!
From Week 8, we’re urging students to back staff in their fight against the University’s proposed abolition of Statute 24, which poses a direct threat to academic freedom here at Warwick. These reforms are unpopular: they have already been opposed by 97% of staff at the academic Assembly, are opposed by 4 in 5 students and an unheard-of 8 departments have already passed opposition motions.
The reforms will be considered at a meeting of the academic Senate this Wednesday, 14th June. It is essential that opposition to the reforms are voiced in this meeting! To share your concerns, you can contact the Senate member(s) most relevant to your department or faculty – read on for more information below.
