As term enters its second week, we know that many of you who are living off-campus might be experiencing frustration with the local bus services. We’re currently collecting evidence of this to present to the bus companies, so please let us know about any problems you encounter so that we can help try and fix them. Details and links are included below.

The Postgraduate Housing Crisis also continues unabated – our Welfare Officer has addressed this in more detail in his latest blog post on the SU website. As always, if you need help with this or any other aspect of student life, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Student Advice Centre team warwicksu.com/advice/

Finally, don’t forget that nominations for the Autumn Elections close this Friday (16th October) at 5pm – if you want to help make your SU and University the best that they can be for postgraduate students, make sure you get involved!

Autumn Elections

Want to represent your fellow PGs and get the postgraduate voice heard on campus? Nominations for PG rep positions in the Autumn Elections close on Friday via the SU website.

Housing issues

SU Welfare Officer LUKE PILOT has written a blog post addressing the housing problems which many new postgrads have been encountering, as well as offering details of the relevant support services available.

Housing Group:

We also have a PG-only Facebook group for those of you who may be looking for accommodation in the local area – click on the subject heading above to find it online.

PT/Mature students

In response to demand, Postgraduate Officer NAT PANDA has set up a new Facebook group in which mature and part-time postgraduates can interact – find it by clicking on the link above, and watch out for more in this area over the coming year!

PG Teacher pay

If you are a Warwick student who is - or might soon be - teaching, come along to the first meeting about STP (Sessional Teaching Project), which is a pilot scheme to review pay conditions for PGs in some departments.

Bus reporting form

Keep those complaints coming in – only by sending us the details of the problems you encounter can we present hard evidence to the bus companies!

Environmental Fund

SU Environment and Ethics Officer MATT GREENHAM blogs on an exciting new project fund being used to provide financial support for student projects and initiatives which promote sustainability.

Black History Month

This year’s event schedule is now firmly underway – visit the team’s Facebook page for more details of everything that’s going on to mark Black History Month at Warwick.

One Big Thing

The One Big Thing initiative aims to get everyone across Coventry participating in 30 minutes of physical activity throughout the day, and get them working together to create a healthier and more energetic community. This year’s event is on 21st October – click through for more!

I Heart Consent

Open to all students, these interactive 90-minute sessions provide a safe space for you to discuss the myths and facts around sexual violence – if you’re on a society or sports club exec, don’t forget that attendance is mandatory for at least two members! Sign up online at the link above.

PhD vlogs

This September and October, jobs.ac.uk have invited 5 PhD students at various stages of their PhD and locations to film themselves and share their videos. The vlogs, or video blogs, will cover everything from starting a PhD, moving abroad to do a PhD, finding funding opportunities to viva preparation and finding your first academic job.

Academic ID Checks

There are many benefits of having an online profile as an academic, and this guide from Piirus will step you through what you can do to find out how to assess your current digital footprint and get tips for improving your digital identity.
