From the attempted deportation of 2000 international students at London Met, the lack of a solution to the postgraduate funding crisis and the first £9,000 home/EU student at Warwick, there is a lot to be angry about in education. Warwick students will be joining thousands of others from across the UK as they march through the streets of London on the 21st November against some of the incredibly damaging changes in education. It has never been more important for students to come together, stand up against what is wrong in our education and promote an alternative, so buy your ticket today at warwicksu.com/future.

Warwick SU is run by you, our members. It’s up to you to decide our priorities for the year, to work towards improving the student experience and help to enact changes on campus and beyond.

The SU’s priorities can be set through Union Policy. New Policy can be passed through All Student Meetings – the first of which is being held Monday of Week 8. As the name suggests, every student is welcome to attend the meeting, debate on issues and vote. The meeting will take place at 5.30pm in the Atrium.

Voting on all issues raised will take place online for a 48-hour period after the meeting, giving every student the opportunity to have their say. So, whether you’re able to make it or not, make sure you get involved in the future of your Union either online or in person!

On Thursday 15th November at 10.30am in Curiositea we will again be having our Student Parents Coffee Morning. Thanks to all who came last time and made the event a success – we look forward to meeting more of you this time around for a chance to chat, network and for the Union to help you with any concerns you have. Children are most welcome! For more information, email Ben at welfare@warwicksu.com.

For those of you that were unable to collect your books at the Book Sale Returns Day, this is your LAST CHANCE to collect any money or unsold books.

The collection will take place at The Mighty Duck (Students' Union pub) between the hours of 11am and 4pm on Thursday.

Please ensure that you bring your Book Sellers Form and Student ID with you!

RAG Week

WEEK 7 is RAG WEEK (as featured on University Challenge)! Last year, RAG (Raising and Giving) raised in the region of £300,000 for charity; this week, they’re raising money and awareness for Children in Need in the most creative ways imaginable. Support this fantastic cause by visiting them in the Atrium and placing an order - their menu includes infamous ‘gnomings’, plus dances and serenades performed by Warwick Glee! They'll also deliver ANYTHING, ANYWHERE on campus, to ANYONE - students and staff alike. Plus, they've got great events running all week including The Big Fat Quiz of Year on Tuesday in the Atrium and a series of club nights. RAG is taking over!

Warwick Commute

If you’re looking for ways to meet new people who do not live in student accommodation (e.g. parents or those who live at home with their family), join Warwick Commute! Commute is a brand new society which helps students who don’t live in ‘typical’ student circumstances to socialise with others in the same situation. You can join them for just £3 on the SU website.

All postgraduate and undergraduate students are invited to participate in the Student Barometer, a global survey of student experience run by the independent research organisation i-graduate, which was launched this week. Simply complete the questionnaire which has been sent to your email account for your chance to have your say and the opportunity to win £1000 cash prize or one of five £100 Amazon vouchers! Your response will shape the student experience at Warwick for years to come by helping the University and Students’ Union to understand your needs better, tailor what we deliver to meet them, and evaluate any changes we’ve made to check if we got it right. Some good news to come out of the Summer Wave 2012 was that Warwick students are increasingly satisfied with internet access in their accommodation thanks to the roll-out of Wi-Fi across campus. However, students remain less satisfied with transport links and opportunities to earn money. The University is working on this and we’re helping with the consultation on it – so rest assured, we take your views very seriously!

IATL want to know what you think about the introduction of Masters-level Interdisciplinary modules. These modules already exist for undergraduates and they want to know what YOU think about expanding them. Possible topics include: gender, digital studies, time.

Would you like to discuss the world’s most pressing issues with top decision-makers like Robert Dudley, Prof. Niall Ferguson, Christine Lagarde, Giorgos Papandreou, Peer Steinbrueck or Ratan Tata? Are you interested in competing with the world’s brightest students? If your answer to these questions is “yes”, enter the student essay competition for the St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award! The St. Gallen Symposium will be held from 30 April–3 May 2013 under the topic “Rewarding Courage”. Winning entrants will enjoy: free participation as a “Leader of Tomorrow” in the 43rd Symposium; the opportunity to meet 600 distinguished entrepreneurs, top managers, politicians and scientists from more than 60 nations; 200 of the world’s brightest young minds from all over the world; full expenses covered; the chance to win the St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award and 20,000 euros to boot! To hear more about how to apply for this opportunity, come to Library Room 1 on Wednesday 21st November (Week 8) at 2pm.
