Have Your Say and Get Involved

We are informing students that an All-Student Vote (ASV) has been called to take place during Week 5 of Term 1, from Monday 2nd November until Friday 6th November.

We have had two proposals for the ASV to which all members are invited to participate in by both campaigning and voting.

The ASV gives every student the opportunity to express their opinion on the areas proposed within this voting window.

The two areas students will be voting on are:

  1. "Should the University of Warwick Students' Union leave (disaffiliate) as a member of the National Union of Students UK (NUS UK)?"
  2. Warwick SU to lobby the University for an ethical stance on AI

But this isn't just about casting your vote, we want students to get involved in the campaign and help make sure their fellow students have the information they need to make an informed decision.

For the NUS Affiliation Vote, we are looking for students who wish to campaign for REMAINING in NUS UK. These students will be trying to encourage students to vote for Warwick SU to remain affiliated to NUS UK.

For the Ethical Stance on AI Vote, we are looking for students who wish to campaign AGAINST Warwick SU lobbying the University for an Ethical Stance on AI. These students will be trying to encourage students to vote against Warwick SU lobbying the University to take a stance on Ethical AI use.

Whether you’ve been involved in campaigns before or this is your first time, we want you to get involved.

As a student campaigner, you could:

  • Help talk to other students about the vote
  • Share campaign information across your course, society or sports team
  • Help create social media content
  • Organise stalls, events or campaign activities
  • Answer questions from other students
  • Help us reach students who might not otherwise engage with the vote
  • Encourage your friends and peers on your course to take part

You don't need to be an expert or have previous campaigning experience. We're looking for students who are interested in the issue and want to play an active role in the democratic process.

What happens next?

You’ll register your interest to be a member of either of the campaign teams by emailing Zander Lavall (Policy & Governance Manager) Zander.Lavall@warwicksu.com before 9am Friday 16th October.

How the campaign will work

We'll explain the campaign rules, available resources and how you can get involved. We will also bring all interested parties together to meet and collaborate on how the campaign is going to be delivered.

How you can make a difference

By taking part as a member of a campaign team, you’ll be able to encourage others to participate in democracy and help share your views with the membership.

Your voice matters

All-Student Votes are an important part of student democracy. They give students the opportunity to directly influence decisions that affect their Students’ Union and wider student experience.

Whatever your view, we want students to be informed, engaged and able to make their own decision.
