Climate Emergency Declaration

Students are clear - we need to clean up our act and save the planet from cataclysmic destruction.

The need for urgent action in reducing net carbon emissions was demonstrated by the October 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, which stated that we as a society need to undergo “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects.”

As Warwick students have asserted by passing SU policy on this issue, there needs to be change, and it needs to be fast if we have any hope of thriving and surviving in the not-too-distant future.

I therefore, on behalf of Warwick Students' Union, declare a state of climate emergency.

The University of Warwick has a responsibility to implement systems changes in response to our climate emergency. High-level regional policy leadership from key social institutions such as universities will be key in determining the success of national and international climate policies.

We support the PROJECT Climate Emergency campaign and its calls for a carbon-neutral university by 2030. As a world-leading university, we expect Warwick to meet the needs and expectations of students in this regard, and look forward to working with them on this.

Liam Jackson, SU President 2018-19

Elections manifestos - guidance for students

A number of clubs and societies are now running their elections on the SU website. Whilst we our doing our utmost to facilitate this, unfortunately it is being impeded by some candidates for election who are using language which is inappropriate to appear on the Warwick SU site.
