ABOUT ME

Hey everyone! I am Kieran, a second year PPE student running to be your next WPO. I have previously acted as:

  • Vice President of the 93% Club Warwick
  • Member of the Widening Participation Student Advisory Group since first year
  • Writer for Assumptions x iNSIGHTS magazines and the Boar, largely writing on social inequalities
  • Tutor and Volunteer Tutor for disadvantaged students at A-Level, GCSE, and Year 6

MY POLICIES

  • Lobby the university for increased financial support for students
  • Enhance student outreach to encourage more WP applicants
  • Create networks for students and staff to interact and receive support
  • Raise awareness of WP and intersectional issues on campus

WHAT IS WP?

You must define as WP to vote for this role. You may be from an area where progression to HE is low, from a low socioeconomic background, a first generation student, a care leaver/estranged student, or a Young Carer.

MY POLICIES IN MORE DEPTH

1. INCREASED FINANCIAL SUPPORT

  • I will lobby for an increase in the bursary to help with increasing costs of living.
  • I will work to make a change to the restrictive prices for SU societies and sports.
  • The SU should fight for a less invasive process for university Hardship Funding.

2. ENHANCED STUDENT OUTREACH

  • The SU should aim to work with the university to increase diversity of students.
  • I aim to reach out to applicants in areas not covered by current programmes.
  • I will create an Outreach strategy group for WP students to share their thoughts.

3. CREATION OF NETWORKS

  • I hope to provide opportunities for WP students and WP staff to connect.
  • The SU should facilitate networks of WP students who can support one another.
  • I hope to give a voice to WP students on campus to share their experiences.

4. RAISING AWARENESS OF WP

  • I will lobby the university to add more WP-specific content in Warwick Values.
  • I hope to create a discussion on WP and intersectionality on campus.
  • The SU needs to give a clearer definition of WP to help students self-define.
