As part of my first few months as Societies Officer, I’ve been getting stuck into society events/activities and attending some of their sessions. Here’s my first blog post about my experience of the sessions I attended recently!
BAME Creatives x Freshblood – Small Fish (20/10/21) – 7:45pm
I had the pleasure of attending the play Small Fish, a joint collaboration between BAME Creatives and Freshblood New Writing Society. Directed by Sanjana Samaddar, and written by Ben Timi-Nuga, Small Fish, in the context of a secondary high school, exposes and closely looks into the casual racism and microaggressions that permeate throughout society. As someone who doesn’t generally watch a lot of plays, this was definitely worth the watch, with talented, new and experienced performers taking to the stage to put on a deeply enthralling performance. Bridge Society (24/10/21) – 2:00pm-5:00pm
A deeply complicated, but enthralling and fun game, Bridge Society turned out to be far more enjoyable than I expected! A game which involves ‘tricks’ and ‘contracts’, impeccable teamwork, and reasonable memorisation skills. The exec (shout out to AJ, President, for helping me out!) helped me try to master the basics during the three-hour session. By the end, whilst I was far from brilliant, I think I was starting to get my head around the basics! Even if the ‘bidding’ process still confuses me greatly. If you are a fan of card games, or are just curious, check the Bridge Society’s socials below and come along to their events!
